Crystal Blue Shadows

(Written in 1998)

(Hey, friend! Wot’s the deal?
you imprison the real, inside you
this side of you that knows
the days you turn your face away from the One
Hey, friend! Will you ever see
you imprison your love for me?
now, your shadow world obscures
the days you could be standing in the Son)

Too smart for your own good
when you play those mind games
you have to have the last word
or you just won’t play, today

I chose to break the silence
of eleven long years
found a broken mind
destroyin’ itself with fear, half insane

Crystal blue shadows
dancin’ in my head
as I talk to you in vain

You will damn me, if I do
and damn me, if I don’t
want to play your games

You want it to be a contest of wills
you want to be right, at any cost
you must have it all your way

Watch me walk away
I can’t be the monster
you are to yourself
when you make me the object of blame

Crystal blue shadows
dancin’ in my head
as I talk to you in vain

You will damn me, if I do
and damn me, if I don’t
want to play your games

Crystal blue shadows
dancin’ in the dark night of the soul
the day you went away
the love you take is the love you fake
the love you won’t return is your pain

You will damn me, if I do
and damn me, if I don’t
want to play your games

When I see the son
I don’t see the father
I’m invisible to you, unreal
just an unholy name

Could you but put yourself
into my mind…
you would lay down your life
rise again, and salvage what remains

Crystal blue shadows
dancin’ in my head
as I talk to you in vain

You will damn me, if I do
and damn me, if I don’t
want to play your games

Crystal blue shadows
dancin’ in the dark night of the soul
the day you went away
the love you take is the love you fake
the love you won’t return is your pain

You will damn me, if I do
and damn me, if I don’t
want to play your games

I don’t want to play your games…any more…
