Old Man Road…

(Written in 1974)

old man road

Old man road, layin’ long before me
as far as my eyes can see…
can’t tell where I’m goin’… the path is not so clear
though I’ve traveled here so many times before…

But I’ll keep driftin’ this same way

knowin’ there will come the day
when the signs along your path say…almost home…

Old man road, why do I abhor you?

you make days I live with you…
sometimes so very sad, when skies are bluish-gray
and you won’t change, no matter what I do…

I don’t know if I’m still on the right road…

sometimes my mind feels so heavy
I just have to stop and lighten the load…
God, help me to find the…right road…
there’s so many roads to travel, but for me
there is only one…right road..that leads to home…

Old man road, you try hard to bore me

but as long as these eyes of mine see…
that life along the way brings to light my inner longings
I’m going where you can’t go…someday…

So I’ll keep driftin’ this same way

knowin’ there will come the day
when the signs along your path say…almost home…

I don’t know if I’m still on the right road…
sometimes my mind feels so heavy
I just have to stop and lighten the load…
God, help me to find the…right road…
there’s so many roads to travel, but for me
there is only one…right road..that leads to home…

there is only one…right road..that leads to home…
